The History of the Playa Fairies

1998

Founding members of Playa Fairies attend burning man ?Ǭ? about 15 people ?Ǭ? thanks to the gentle coaxing of friends.

1999

Founding members of Playa Fairies return to the playa and stay a bit long, becoming more inspired and tuned into the spirit of the event. Visions of future plans start to dance in their heads ?Ǭ? Fairyland is a dream about to become a reality.

2000

Playa Fairies, having such a great time on the playa in 1999, decide to build a full them camp. This year was born the Black Rock Gym and Beauty Bar with about 20 people.

2001

Playa Fairies return to the playa with the Black Rock Gym but drop the Beauty Bar and add a Sauna instead. The camp grows to about 40 people.

2002

Playa Fairies goes through some changes ?Ǭ? merging, joining, splitting, but growth. This is the year the Isle of Avalon was born, encompassing Fairyland, Thin Air, the Black Rock Gym with Sauna and more. The camp grows to over 100 people.

2003

Playa Fairies experience more changes. Isle of Avalon and Fairyland mapped as neighbors on the playa but on opposite sides of the street. This year Vietnamese Iced Coffee Camp (VICC), Astropups and Altered Shrine Shack joined the Isle of Avalon. The Black Rock Gym and Sauna are retired. The Thin Air group became Sacrafactory.

2004

Playa Fairies return to the Isle of Avalon, known as Avalon Space Station. The Playa Fairies take on the name Faerystar Artists Guild (yes the F.A.G in the A.S.S.). The camp is downsized a bit compared to the 2003 year as it merges back into the fold with Avalon. Avalon Space Station encompasses Faerystar Artists Guild, Astropups, VICC, Interplanetary Dance Commandos (IDC), and the Uncharted Territories. The fairies number about 40.

2005

Playa Fairies continued with the Avalonians. During this year the fairies choose to return to Fairyland. We had one of our most successful years, with the trucks arriving at around 1AM on Sunday, and all structures in place and built before the big wind and dust storms of Monday. We also errected an approximatelly 30 foot tower on the playa with lights that could be seen from some distance around. This was also the year that Avalon really came toegether with a very united front and united events. We have about 30 people in the camp.

2006

The tradition continues in 2006, with exciting events and fun times for all the fairies. Some of our regulars are taking the year off and some new folks have chosen to join us. The camp will be very similar in style and feel to 2005, with another tower to lead us home after a long playa evening.
